Larry Crabb’s father reflects on spiritual insights he has received during his lifetime.
Jesus’ central mission is to reveal the Father. God speaks only three times in the New Testament–affirming His pride in the Son. Christ’s death reveals the depth of the heart of God. Effective Christian counseling points clients to Christ who reveals the heart of God.
Jesus came to reveal the Father’s glory. Satan’s agenda is to make relationship with God impossible. Jesus is God’s answer to the evil that has afflicted humankind since The Fall and as we continue to walk in the way of Cain.
The fruit of doubting God’s goodness is living the way of Cain. We look at life and conclude that God is not good enough to be trusted.
The key to becoming an effective Christian counselor is to develop a passion for Christ which shares the Father’s passion for Christ. Since the Fall, humans fear that God is holding out on us (He is not good) or we mistrust the depths of His goodness (He’s not good enough). Through Jesus, God reveals His true, full character.
Using the Hebrew words for male and female from Genesis 1:27, Dr. Crabb discusses what the implications of the definitions are for a biblical understanding of true masculinity and femininity. He shows how the core fears of men and women are related to God’s purpose in how each sex is to reflect His character.
