About Larger Story
Our Vision and Mission
At Larger Story, we are joining with Heaven to tell the beautiful story of redemption and restoration. It spans from before time – from the birth of the earth, to Christ’s life, death and resurrection – to today. God invites us to tell His Larger Story, the over-arching narrative that unites all of history. Deeper and wider than merely a collection of events, this story’s meaning is only realized when we see it as relational.
We aim to offer spiritually hungry people online resources and support based on Dr. Larry Crabb’s gospel-centered relational framework. Our resources help you go deeper to discover and live in the love story God is telling. We equip individuals, groups and churches to courageously face what makes meaningful and lasting community difficult and to break through those obstacles to live with purpose and power.
The Legacy of Dr. Larry Crabb
Through his storied 40-year publishing career, Dr. Larry Crabb has been sharing the movement of God in his own soul and through his story. In every book, article, sermon, or seminar, Larry reminds us to see the hand of God and hear His voice in any circumstance and condition of our soul.
In his own words…
“Among many other purposes, Larger Story will serve as the legacy of the thinking and writing and training and counseling I’ve been doing now for 50 years. My focus has been to better understand how Christian counseling and spiritual direction can be used by God to form us into the people we were designed to be.
Admittedly, no small task. But good minds – tech, theological, administrative, relational – have combined to present to a world-wide audience what it means to live in the LARGER STORY of God as we stumble through our smaller story with its everyday hassles, pleasures, trials, and blessings. Larger Story believes that when we tag along with what God is up to, we can find joy in the middle of heartache, hope in the middle of despair, faith in the middle of doubt – all through relating well in community.”
We have amassed the many books, countless sermons and talks, and numerous videos that make up the prolific lifework of Larry Crabb here as a resource for anyone seeking to authentically and consistently live out the larger love story God is still telling every day.
Our Founder
Several years ago, Kep Crabb, Larry’s oldest son, was inspired to find a way to take the inheritance he had received from his father and the message many had received from his books and make it available to a new generation on a richer platform at a much larger scale.
Kep’s passion and vision became Larger Story. After several years of working with his father, he has felt called carry on his father’s legacy and began this effort that has become Larger Story.
It has been Kep’s desire that Larger Story will offer Dr. Crabb’s materials and teachings, along with those of others, on what it means to live in God’s Larger Story as we go through life in our smaller stories. Kep says, “I’m often asked, ‘what is it like to be Dr. Larry Crabb’s son?’ The simple answer for me is blessed. I’m blessed to have an example who has shown me what it means to put Jesus on display by how he relates to others. Kep says it would be a travesty if his father’s teachings were to end with his death and has started Larger Story to offer some thoughts to hard questions that this life exposes as we journey together.
What We Believe
Vital to our message is a statement of faith that provides the theological parameters and guidelines for the development of resources. This statement of faith intends to do this while not unnecessarily alienating those we desire to reach.
We believe in one God, Creator and Lord of the Universe, the co-eternal Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died a substitutionary atoning death on the cross, rose bodily from the dead and ascended to heaven where, as truly God and truly man, He is the mediator between God and man.
We believe that the Bible is God’s authoritative and inspired Word. It is without error in all its teachings, including creation, history, its own origins, and salvation. Christians must submit to its divine authority, both individually and corporately, in all matters of belief and conduct, which is demonstrated by true righteous living. True Christians desire to submit to the Bible and obey God.
We believe that all people are lost sinners and cannot enter the Kingdom of God except through the new birth. Justification is by grace through faith in Christ alone. Good works have no place in justification. We are fully dependent on God for both justification and sanctification.
We believe in one holy, universal, and apostolic Church. Its calling is to worship and witness concerning its Head, Jesus Christ, preaching the Gospel among all nations and demonstrating its commitment by compassionate service to the needs of human beings and by promoting righteousness and justice. Its central calling is to become a spiritual community where people profoundly connect with God and each other.
We believe in the necessity of the work of the Holy Spirit for the individual’s new birth and growth to maturity, and for the Church’s constant renewal in truth, wisdom, faith, holiness, love, power, and mission. The resources of the New Covenant provide salvation and empower personal growth.
We believe that Jesus Christ will personally and visibly return in glory to raise the dead and bring salvation and judgment to completion. God will fully manifest His kingdom when He establishes a new heaven and new earth, in which He will be glorified forever and exclude all evil, suffering, and death.
